Welcome to this follow up to my pieces on the Gooderham Building and Berczy Park. This post explores the most distinctive feature of the park.

Amidst the green spaces and seating areas of Berczy Park is a large, two-tiered classic Victorian-style fountain comprised of a plethora of life-size cast-iron dog statues.
The 27 water-spouting dogs are all looking up towards a large golden bone perched on the fountain’s top. The tiers of the fountain are designed to resemble dog collars and there is a ground level drinking trough which serves the thousands of weekly canine visitors.
The positioning of the fountain also affords photographers the opportunity to create a variety of shots with different backgrounds that seem to transform the location while maintaining the fountain in the foreground. Different backgrounds range from historical to modern glass buildings to trees and the Flatiron Mural.
Additionally, the fountain itself provides a great backdrop for street photography.
One final interesting feature of the fountain is the inclusion of a cat. Unlike the dogs, the cat is looking away from the fountain towards 2 birds situated on a nearby lamppost.
Personally, I find the cat somewhat nightmare-inducing – it’s the eyes….

I’d love to see any shots of the fountain the you have! I’d also appreciate hearing what you liked about about this post!
