How Do You Like Your Steak(house)?

Welcome! This post outlines the editing process for my Old Quebec Steakhouse shot.

As with my previous works, these simple edits were done in Lightroom. If you have not had the chance to read my first two posts on this shot, please do.

Let’s get to it!

STEP 1:  TRANSFORM

  • Click AUTO

This aligns things well. However, because this is a composite shot, there are issues with blank spaces around the perimeter of the shot. At this point, I ignore them because I will crop the image later.

STEP 2:  LENS CORRECTION – in Profile Mode:

  • Enable LENS CORRECTION
  • Enable REMOVE CHROMATIC ABERRATION

Although this is a composite of nine images, Lightroom can still detect which lens was used to capture the images and make corrections specific to that lens.

STEP 3: DETAIL panel:

  • NOISE REDUCTION: I adjust sliders to the low 80s.
  • SHARPENING: I adjust sliders to preference.

STEP 4: BASIC panel.

In the PRESENCE section, I:

  • adjust DEHAZE to preference
  • adjust CLARITY to preference

In the TONE section, I:

  • Adjust sliders to preference – I only change contrast and highlight now because I will adjust the others after converting the image to a colour splash. Now, I just want to bring out different shades in the sky.

STEP 6: CROP

  • Click on CROP TOOL located under the histogram
  • Choose 1X1

I want to eliminate the blank spaces and as much of the other distractions in the shot as possible – ie other buildings, street signs, etc..  Cropping to 1X1 is the best option to achieve these results.

There you have it – a simple process resulting in this shot.
